Decolonizing Health Data for Justice: The Healing & Data Justice Curriculum
The Indigenous Health Equity Institute offers a condensed 3 week workshop and training series focused on decolonizing data, equity and public health, which consists of three, two-hour modules. Curated at the request of Linn Benton Lincoln Health Equity Alliance (LBLHEA) leadership, this training from the Indigenous Health Equity Institute (IHEI) is designed to foster workforce capacity, capability, and actions to uplift socially- and racially-just data ecosystems and public health practice for health equity.
This first of its kind curriculum was developed through collaboration among a team of Native and non-Native individuals, and it is designed to promote capacity, capability and a practice of decolonizing our individual and collective professional impacts to promote data justice and health equity. The curriculum is rooted in Indigenous values, and it is useful for Native and non-Native practitioners in the areas of data management, programmatic planning, management, research, health equity & policy. The curriculum is relevant to a wide variety of intersecting disciplines in and beyond public health, public administration and policy.
This training series consisting of three sessions over four weeks will begin on Tuesday, October 3rd and end on October 24th. All sessions will run on a 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM daily schedule.
Session Dates
Tuesday, October 3rd, 10:30am-12:30pm
Tuesday, October 10th, 10:30am-12:30pm
Tuesday, October 24th, 10:30am-12:30pm
About the Indigenous Health Equity Institute:
The Indigenous Health Equity Institute (IHEI) is a Native led organization that formed in 2020. The intention of IHEI is to build and mobilize a statewide movement to decolonize applications within the public health sector and adjacent fields. To mobilize this campaign, the IHEI addresses the following areas:
Leadership and workforce development;
Health policy, research and data justice;
Community engagement & reciprocity;
Wellness and resilience in actions for anti-racism and decolonizing.
These focus areas build institutional capacity to undo the lasting impacts of institutional racism and colonialism. They help us build the capacity to create the conditions needed to advance us closer to the vision of health equity.

A Peace of My Mind: Exploring Belonging One Story at a Time
Join us for community exploration of community and belonging as Corvallis hosts award-winning photographer John Noltner from October 16 to 22, 2023. As a storyteller, Noltner has worked on four continents gathering stories of human courage, grace, and resilience. Now he is coming to Corvallis to ask: “What does belonging mean to you?” This community building experience will feature photography exhibits, photography studio sessions, and a keynote talk and dialogue — all centered around belonging. This programming series is being offered as part of the multimedia arts project A Peace of My Mind. The programs are designed to provide the Corvallis community with the opportunity to teach each other what we need to truly belong through portraits and personal stories.
All programs are free and open to the public. Many local community organizations, nonprofits, and OSU units have collaborated to support the planning of this series. Accommodations requests related to disability should be made to Community Engagement & Leadership at cel@oregonstate.edu or 541-737-3041.
